How to add different languages to your survey and easily manage translations
Survey translations
Having your survey available in multiple languages can make your survey more accessible to your audience and allow people to read and respond in a language they are more comfortable with improving quantity and quality of responses. However, managing multiple languages and translations in your survey, ensuring you are asking questions in the same way so you can correctly interpret results can be a hefty task.
Explori streamlines the process of managing multiple language by allowing the user to view, add and edit translations side-by-side. This ensures you can be confident before distributing your survey that translations have been applied consistently across multiple languages, and sentiment and tone align across translations.
Managing your translations
Before you start managing your translations you will need to select the languages your survey will be available in and choose a default language.
Tip: Your default language should be the language you want to primarily create your survey in. It can be much easier to create your survey first in one language before beginning translating into other languages
You can navigate to your translations from the survey 'Build' tab and can manage these in two core ways
Managing translations for individual questions
If you need to edit translations for an individual question, you can access question translations via the 'Translation' tab in the 'Edit question' modal...
- In the question settings menu, select ‘Edit question’
- Navigate to the ‘Translations’ tab
- Select the language you would like to view or edit from the dropdown
Your primary survey language will always be displayed on the left for consistent reference and your secondary language will be displayed on the right.
If translations exist for the selected language these will be displayed in the purple boxes below, if no translation exists the box will appear empty. To make updates or add new translations:
- Type edits or new translations into each box
- Select 'Save' to apply edits
Warning: When adding in translations, be conscious editing mergefields such as [eventname] and [eventdates]. These need to remain in English in order to function correctly populate the correct text.
Full survey view
If you would like to view all survey questions and translations in full, you can do this via the standalone 'Translations' view
- Select 'Translations' at the top of the survey
- Select the language you would like to view or edit from the dropdown
You can expand and collapse survey pages individually or toggle 'Expand all pages'.
To begin editing translations:
- Select the 'Edit translations' toggle
If translations exist for the selected language these will be displayed in the purple boxes below, if no translation exists the box will appear empty. To make updates or add new translations:
- Type edits or new translations into each box
- Select 'Save' to apply edits
