How to use the different types of filters in the survey reports to analyse your data
Why use filters?
Filtering in reports is useful in allowing users to focus on specific data points, making information more relevant and easier to analyse. Instead of viewing an entire dataset, filters narrow down the results based on the selected criteria, removing irrelevant data and saving you time with quick and easy access to meaningful insights.
What filtering features are available?
Within our reports, you can use
- Response filters - filtering based on question responses
- Verbatim filters - filtering based on open responses to your survey
- Campaign filters - applying filters based on the different campaign used to distribute your survey
- Date filters - filtering based on date range
Who can use this?: Anyone with access to the survey reports can use filters
How does the filtering work?
Filters can be applied in two ways via the reports:
Quick filters - allows you to quickly apply filters to your report based on survey responses and verbatim answers
Add / edit filters - a more in-depth filtering tool that allows you to filter by survey responses, verbatim answers, campaigns and dates, and customise your filtering rules
Filter rules
Any filters you add will update the entire report.
When applying filters to multiple questions, the system uses the following logic by default:
-
Within each question, 'one of' (also known as OR) logic is applied. This means if a question has multiple selected answer options, a response will match if any one of the selected options is chosen.
-
Between the different questions 'AND' logic is applied. This means a response must meet the filter criteria for all selected questions to be included in the results.
In this example, the report will filter for any respondent who's company type is a Restaurant OR a Cafe / Coffee shop AND they gave a NPS score of 9 OR 10.
You can use the add / edit modal to customise your rules.
- Select the add / edit filters option
- Choose the filters you want to apply
- Update the function based on how you want the filters to work
In the example provided, the OR function is applied, which means the report will include respondents who fall into any of the specified categories: either the company type is a Cafe / Coffee Shop or a Restaurant OR their objectives include sourcing new suppliers or networking within the industry.
This logic can be applied for the response, campaign and date filters.
If you want the report to be filtered by a specific date range, select the AND function.
Removing filters
To remove your filters, simply click on 'Clear filter' and your report will return back to the default.
